Hinder Gives Fairbanks "Nightmares"

Hinder Gives Fairbanks "Nightmares"

Oklahoma City has never looked so good on Fairbanks, Alaska. The alternative metal band Hinder made their first ever appearance here in Fairbanks on Friday, July 8 at the Blue Loon, after their show at El Paso’s Downtown Street Festival. Hinder played at the Palmer State Fair last August to a massive all-ages crowd, and the Loon crowd last Friday sure wasn’t any less. Hinder was probably the most entertaining concert to hit the Loon in a while; it’s not every concert that a lead singer walks out onto the center divider that separates the drinkers and the non-drinkers to be groped by the nearest screaming fans.

Hinder formed back in 2001, created by drummer Cody Hanson, guitarist Joe Garvey, and lead singer Austin Winkler, who met at a college party in Oklahoma City. The band grew after their 2003 release of Far From Close, an EP on the independent label Brickden Records. By 2005 they acquired Bassist Mike Rodden and rhythm guitarist Mark King for their release of Extreme Behavior. The album included the two songs that got Hinder noticed around the world, “Get Stoned” and “Lips of an Angel”, and from there, the rest is a successful history.

Hinder’s new album, All American Nightmare, has been a success as well, since its December 2011 release. The album sold 35,000 copies during its first week on sale in the United States, and debuted on the Billboard 200 chart at number 37. “All American Nightmare” currently sits at #22 on the Billboard Rock Songs chart, the week's most popular alternative, mainstream rock and triple A songs.

The Fairbanks crowd went crazy for the newer songs such as “Hey Ho”, “Striptease”, and “Put That Record On”. By the end of the night, approximately 10 bras of various colors, shapes, and sizes had accumulated across the stage.

So, that’s #22 on the charts, 152,881 Facebook fans, and a 10 on the “bras on stage” scale. That’s what rock n’ roll calls a good night.

For some reason, these last three photos didn't make it to my Flickr set.

Well, they asked for a “Striptease”… Here is one of many articles of lingerie thrown onstage during the Hinder concert at the Blue Loon. July 8, 2011. Alyssa Dunehew

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith was known for his scarf-clad microphone stand... Suppose Austin Winkler of Hinder might have a similar, yet sexier idea?  Hinder performed at the Blue Loon for an all-ages concert on July 8, 2011. Alyssa Dunehew
