Patience, February (Playlist)

Alright, folks. Time to wrap things up for the month. And holy crap, is there a lot to wrap up. Might have to double up... Sorry. Bad joke.
This month has pretty much been hell and high water for me. I'm not exaggerating. I haven't been this unmotivated ever in my life.
But, within the past week I've started making positive changes, after I actually made the realization that it was motivation I was lacking and that there are some things I need to change.
Last week I started going to the gym again, which has REALLY helped me. I've also become a hockey girl... 'nough said.

One last thing I’d like to mention before I give you the playlist. For the past month or so, I’ve been a Staff Reporter for the Sun Star (view their Facebook too!) the student newspaper here at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I’ve had a fantastic time writing for them so far, and I’ve finally settled into the position of writing music reviews. Tomorrow my first review will be published online, please check it out! We’re really trying to get more people to the site, because it’s a GREAT site.

Just like any other hard time, music is what always gets me through. So, here's to you, February. Thank God you're over and done with.

Mike Posner's "Takeoff"

Here comes a rant and review. My favorite music blog of all time just posted today, saying "Mike Posner's album sucked, huge flop." That was literally the first sentence of the post. It was completely shocking, and because I admit I haven't heard his entire album, "31 Minutes to Takeoff", I had to do some investigations. There are about 3 songs that are really well known from his album, and I've heard about 6 of them (along with many remixes of those few), and liked all of them a lot. So I'm on iTunes right now, previewing the rest of the songs I haven't heard, and honestly, I like what I'm hearing! The songs don't all sound the same, which is one of my biggest pet peeves. New artists who release an album of songs that all sound the same, I can't stand it. However, Posner hasn't done that at all. Some of his songs are more slow R&B type songs, others are upbeat pop/hip hop songs, and they're all pretty catchy. The best songs on the album that no one has really heard of are "Do U Wanna?", "Cheated", "Gone In September", "Save Your Goodbye", and "Falling". Listen to them!
I'm curious as to why the album "sucked". I sent in an email to the blog asking if they'd like to comment, so we'll see what happens.
Anyhow, click the link above and give it a listen. I really think he's done a fantastic job as a new artist, and he's fairly unique. Not to mention... his latest music video with Lil Wayne makes me wanna "bow chicka wow wow"...

Valentine's Day Dance Playlist

Tomorrow I'm "DJing" a formal Valentine's Day Ball for our local high school Ballroom Dance Team and community members. I was asked to make a playlist of danceable music (waltz, cha cha, salsa, foxtrot, samba, tango, etc.) and here's what I've got planned out.

Meditative New Found Glory

white black white black white black
white white black white black
extentions of the hands pressing in and
letting go
resonation, overtones, reverb, echos
cross my heart and close
my eyes are soft focus now, drying slowly
looking further
longing, floating into space
filled with Amazing Grace
there is nothing in the room
there is no room
there is no
only the breathing and sighing of the melodic monster
rolling and easing under my hands
soft cold ivory under soft warm fingertips
physical, molding and mixing to emotional
sensations of pleasurable durations of
resonating overtones and reverberating echos
building, agitated and booming, faster and louder
and harder and longer
and louder and longer,
sweating and beating
and never blinking
joyous and bursting
from within, explosions of yellow happiness and orange
volumes of pure sticky sweet radiance
and then the shift
eyes shifting, muting, falling
so quiets the mind and the heart and the body
and the joy turns to contentment
and peace, slow, soft,
never ending peace
