Hennessy at Cookouts

Never heard of The King's Dead? Yes you have. The Dean's List has magically morphed into this new project, and I'm diggin' it so far. Be on the lookout for their free debut album titled "Jerusalem", dropping September 17th. In the mean time, enjoy "Hennessy at Cookouts".

A Summer Summary

This is the third and final time I’m going to try and write this blog post. I’m so angry that these keep disappearing from my computer… To restate what I typed in the past two attempts, sorry for the absence. It’s a long story that mostly involves me being too busy moving out of the house I’ve lived in the past 8 years, and preparing to move to Arizona from Alaska. It has not been easy. But I’m doing it and I’m going to have the effing time of my life, which is what I keep telling myself as motivation.

I’m so mad right now, you all have no idea. Haha. I had this fantastic post written up for you all, and now it’s gone. I’ve also been having massive problems with 8Tracks, so I’m going to make this playlist a Soundcloud/YouTube/Soundowl embedded playlist instead.

Sorry for the wait, but hey, school’s starting, and I’m just in time to give everyone something to party to. Enjoy Syllabus Week, liquor before beer, and all that fun stuff. These are the tracks that have summed up my summer. Hope you enjoy.

(Sorry this is messy as hell, but I think the music matters most. They're in this order for a reason.)

May Be Keepin' it Together

Happy summer, everyone! Man, doesn't it feel good to be DONE?? Now we're free to run and play, drive our fast, sexy, sporty cars, kiss in the rain, and lay out all day in the sun to achieve that perfect bronze glow.... Oh, and don't forget the whole Full Time Job aspect! We need that cash, too. For those of you still in school, take the word "done" and think of it as "done with the first five months of this year/done with winter and spring". :)
If you're reading this, that means you kept it together long enough to get thru the cold, the snow (depending on where you live), the homework, the tests, the essays, and for some, the graduation ceremonies. Congrats! It also means you got past those rough spots, those low grades, those cloudy, dark days, those fights with the boyfriend/girlfriend, anything that tested your patience and strength. Again, congrats. I've been through my share of rough spots for sure, but I've passed the tests of patience and strength, and I've come out on top. It feels good, right? Right!
There were definitely some rough spots in music this month, for sure. There've been days where I was so unimpressed with what I'd been finding lately that I just drove in silence. YES, it killed me. But I've done my last bit of homework for the month, and gathered up what I think is a fantastic playlist to celebrate our accomplishments and kick off Summer 2K12! Below is my 8tracks Mix for the month, 24 songs that I've come to love, that I think you'll love too.

MIRACLE
(the way this song sounds just makes me feel like summer in general… I think it’s the guitar riff. Check out Ghost Beach and get their free downloads!)
Ghost Beach
Run ft. Team Robot
(G-Eazy is becoming quite popular now, I really like his chill, slightly old school hip hop sounds. Sorry for the racial slurs... Also: BIG BOOTY BITCHES. That is all.)
G-Eazy
I Love It
(Hey boys! This is sung by Swedish girls! YES, SWEDISH GIRLS! Feisty, tall, skinny, blonde Swedish girls... Find this track on soundcloud. )
Icona Pop
Amazing (Ft. Chris Brown)
(“I be goin' hard, Hard enough to have a baby”… huh. Okay.)
David Banner
Tapada World
(Everyone knows I have a thing for this white boy. Not the best I’ve ever heard from him, but it’s new and it’s not completely terrible.)
Mike Posner
Evolved
(From their new album “Relax”. I liked most of these, actually.)
Sex Ray Vision
Sending My Heartbeat [Childish Gambino, R3hab, Hardwell, Swanky Tunes, Hard Rock Sofa, Dirty South] (Idk, I just like this one. Yep.)
Sex Ray Vision
The Veldt (Original Mix)
(I’m sorry this is so long… If you don’t wanna skip it, just go do something for 8 minutes. I promise the rest of the list is worth it! If you do like this… Good for you.)
Deadmau5
Limitless
(Also from “Relax”.)
Sex Ray Vision
Lost In Translation
(This one’s pretty abstract…. just wait and get into the beat a little. I think it’s groovy. Sexytime…)
Sexytime
This Is So Sweet [Ehrencrona, Temper Trap]
(Who doesn’t love a good remix of Sweet Disposition? Ultimate summertime anthem.)
Sex Ray Vision
Pumped Up Kicks (Foster The People Cover)
(Did you eargasm? Yes? I knew it… Isn’t Cris’ voice just amazing?)
Cris Cab
You're A Fool feat. G. Love
(Oh, Cisco… you’re so smooooth.)
Cisco Adler
Runaround Sue ft. Greg Banks
(This is one I’ve put on repeat on and off throughout the month.)
G-Eazy
Boyfriend (Remix) (feat. 2 Chainz, Mac Miller & Asher Roth)
(These three give Justin Bieber the sex appeal he thinks he always has. Asher’s part is just… UGH. Yes.)
Justin Bieber
Let's Go Home
(Carousel always sounds like summer to me, chill with a good beat. I’ve posted a few other songs of theirs before, as well.)
Carousel
Hollywood (featuring Penguin Prison)
(If you don’t know RAC, get to know them. There’s another mix by them two tracks from this.)
RAC
Empty Streets
(I’m not sure if this is a favorite of mine or not. I like the fact that it’s fresh, though, not like everything else that’s popular right now.)
Ghost Beach
Everybody Knows (RAC Mix)
(Mm, mm. Some good Legend to groove to.)
John Legend
Big Easy ft. G-Eazy
(Love the horns in this. Great ensemble.)
Brando
The Knowing
(This song makes me want to direct the most epic short film EVER… It just sounds “epic” to me.)
Sahab.
The Funeral (Sound Remedy Remix)
(I just found this earlier today, and wow! I like it a lot. Some really cool dubstep in the middle of a great song.)
Band Of Horses
New Theory (RAC Mix)
(You catching my drift yet? RAC is pretty dang cool. I like what they’ve done with this one.)
Washed Out
Last Time Ft. Matthew Gage
(I hope you’re still with me, I know this has definitely been a long list. You probably haven’t heard of G-Scott. But this song is incredible. Put it in some headphones and just breathe with it.)

Average April

Holy cow, another month gone by... As you can see from the title of this month's playlist, this month has actually been pretty normal. Ups and downs, ins and outs, turns and... yeah, you get the point. However, I'm really impressed with the music I've been finding lately (only because I do an ungodly amount of digging and searching). When am I not, though? I guess that makes this month even more normal...
First up, I'll talk a little on some music that I've been bumpin' all month long, and ironically, it's really not that average. It's very different than what I was expecting, actually. Even though Mac Miller's newest mixtape, Macadelic, was released a little over a month ago, I've now had enough time to form a few opinions about it. First off, I like it. Some of the songs really vibe an old school hip hop sound, which I really dig. Second, like I mentioned before, it's definitely not what I was expecting. Why? The drug use/references in this album are uncountable... I mean, yeah he's a young hip hop artist, they all rap about b!tches and rollin' on pills, right? But comparing this new album to previous works such as Blue Slide Park or Best Day Ever (I'm thinking songs like Wear My Hat, Life Ain't Easy, Love Lost), it seems he's really into the drug scene right now. Furthermore, when he's not talking about drugs, the rest of his lyrics are pretty gritty and nasty... but of course, he won't lose any support from the female percentage of his audience by rapping about all those nasty things. Girls go ape sh!t over this dude, I mean, look at that face! Still makes for good music, though, so I'm not complaining. ...Especially when it's FREE.

Next, I'll just get right down to business. Here's my full April playlist, from which I've extracted my most listened to and liked songs and turned into an 8tracks Mix, which is below this list. Check it.
